When Drums & Bass Unite

For the last year, I have been working on various solo pieces that are written entirely on my six-string bass.  With the help of my various effects units, I am able to perform these compositions without any other accompaniment.  The extended range of my bass's high-C string allows me to play more melodic, with friendlier sounding bass chords and tapped melody lines.

It just so happens that what I have been doing mixes perfectly with different aspects of world percussion instruments and beats.  This style of playing allows for the ability to perform without a guitarist or keyboardist, making this a truly unique duo opportunity.  I have already completed several  pieces of music with intentions of pushing the envelope further.

I am in the process of recording my songs for an EP album that will be released in the distant future.  This is an ongoing personal project that I will be working on over the coming months.  More on that at a later date.

Something that I feel very strongly about is recording newfound material.  It is an excellent tool to boost productivity and aid in the writing process.  The following links are for a couple of ideas that were recorded with my previous drummer partner Michael Raven.

The following tracks are demo versions of what I intend to complete for the future CD.  Exceptions for the CD will be Raining Grace and Amity (in its current form) as well as any drumming performed by Michael Raven.  Please click on the icons below to hear each piece in Real Audio format.

The first track I recorded with Michael Raven.  It features me on didgeridoo and bass with Michael improvising on talking drum and background synth.

Cloud Ten is a story of what one may expect to find beyond "being on cloud 9".  It is by far the most complex piece of music I have written.

This track is a little different from the rest of the ambient tunes.  It has a cool phaser effect on the bass, lots of two hand tapping, bass solos and a drum kit to boot!

Also a little bit different than the ambient tracks, Two Elements is a collaboration between Michael and I where he introduced his kit drumming into the equation.
